Null Sampling Distributions

The null sampling distribution is a type of sampling distribution of a test statistic under the assumption that the null hypothesis is true.

It represents the distribution (likelihood) of all possible test statistics that can be observed by chance alone by sampling the population multiple times, but under the assumption that the null hypothesis is true:

the critical value can be found using a table or a statistical software that
calculates it based on the input values of alpha and degrees of freedom.

Alternative Sampling Distribution

The alternative sampling distribution refers to the distribution of the test statistic under the assumption that the null hypothesis is false.
